I know most of us have our mind on Christmas already, but with three more days left to go in November, we are technically still in the pumpkin season.
Did you know that while pumpkins are nutritious to eat, they also make excellent moisturizers for the body? This simple body mask is homemade, all-natural, chemical-free and is the perfect way to get your skin ready for winter. I love how smooth and soft my skin feels after each treatment!
Yields: 1 treatment (about 2 1/2 cups) | Prep Time: 20 min. | Cooking Time: 10 min.
- 1 small pumpkin
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 tbsp of lemon juice
- A few drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)
- Cut the pumpkin in half, scrape out the seeds and pulp from the center.
- Then cut it into quarters and peel of the skin using a sharp vegetable peeler. Placing pumpkin quarters skin side up on a cutting board makes peeling easy.
- Next cut the peeled pumpkin quarters into cubes, place in a pot, add a small amount of water and cook for about 10 min. or until fully cooked.
- Remove from heat and mash pumpkin with a potato masher.
- Finally add the yogurt, lemon juice and your favorite essential oil (if desired).
- Apply the body mask while it is still warm.
Important Notes:
- Warm up your bathroom prior to starting the treatment.
- Stand/sit in the bathtub and generously apply the warm body mask all over your body.
- Rest in the bathtub with the body mask on for 10-15 minutes and then shower.
- Use a shower strainer to catch bigger pieces of the pumpkin pulp.
The following essential oils pair well with pumpkin, so add a few drops of one or more of these to your body mask, if desired and if you do not have any skin sensitivities to these.
- cardamom
- cinnamon
- clove
- orange
